Why Preparing Together Is the Secret to a Smooth Video Shoot
When it comes to video production, preparation is everything. I don’t just mean charging the batteries and packing the cameras — I mean preparing together. Because the smoother the preparation, the smoother the shoot, and the better the final video.
Recently I turned up to a location expecting to plug my interview cameras into the mains. The problem? There were no plug sockets. None. Thankfully, I’d brought plenty of batteries and backup options, but it was a reminder of how important proper planning is — not just on my side, but with my clients too.
Why Preparation Is a Partnership
When you book me for a shoot, I’ll always bring the technical preparation:
- Extra batteries and memory cards.
- Backup audio options.
- Spare cables and adapters.
- Contingency plans for lighting.
But that’s only half the story. The other half comes from you:
- Telling me about the space we’ll be filming in.
- Letting me know if there are power limitations or noise issues.
- Confirming who’s available and when.
- Sharing what success looks like for you on the day.
When we prepare together, we avoid those “oh no” moments that eat up time and cause stress.
Expect the Unexpected
The truth is, something unexpected almost always happens. A venue turns out to be noisier than expected, power isn’t where you thought it would be, or schedules shift at the last minute.
That’s not a problem if we’ve prepared. Together, we’ll already have a plan B (and probably a plan C) in place.
Protecting Your Investment
A well-prepared shoot doesn’t just save time — it saves money. It means we capture the content you need without delays, reshoots, or compromises. And ultimately, it ensures the video you receive is professional, polished, and effective.
In Summary
Preparation isn’t just me turning up with the right gear. It’s a process we go through as a team to make sure your shoot runs smoothly, no matter what surprises crop up on the day.
That way, you can relax knowing your message will be captured clearly, confidently, and professionally.
